It is with great sadness that I announce that Jeff Norwood, my best friend and longtime music partner, passed away on April 22, 2012. I have known Jeff since I was eight years old and have played in bands with him since I was nine. Jeff was here at the beginning of Grannys Studio. He helped me make all the first equipment purchases and then became the most faithful recording artist at Grannys. I have had the pleasure to record a number of Jeff's albums over the last 20 years including, "Black Dark", "Resonate", his latest EP release "Lord Help" and many other demo and cassette projects. The latter album, "Lord Help" was released for digital download on April 23, the day after his death, on the Appalachia Burning label. I was not aware that he had planned a new release but how proud I was to find out that ALL the songs on "Lord Help" were recorded here at Grannys Studio and produced by me.
Below is some of the articles that appeared after Jeff's death
Norwood’s skill was impeccable — his style was delta slide and stomp combined with a down-home Piedmont influence and slapped hard with up-jumped-the-devil excitement. A regular at blues festivals such as King Biscuit, as well as the International Blues Challenge, Norwood’s personality was infectious and enjoyable. (Matt Marshall - American Blues Scene)
Known by fans and colleagues for his gnarly guitar tone, growly voice, and earthy sense of humor, Norwood was a favorite on the local blues scene for years. He regularly performed at local venues and festivals, including the annual Lowcountry Blues Bash and events at Awendaw Green and Home Team BBQ. (T. Ballard Lesemann - Charleston City Paper)
Jeff Norwood drove with me , just the two of us, out to the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival. I knew then that I would love Jeff always. He was a beautiful player and singer and the nicest guy. I love him. (Drink Small - Legendary Bluesman)
Norwood’s vocals and slide guitar evoked some of the best talent in Delta and Piedmont style blues without imitating those bluesmen who came before him. (Georgetown Fats - The Boston Blues Society)
I will miss him dearly. Godspeed Jeff.
So sorry, it has been a long time since I updated the "News" section of the website. Been busy at work and doing a lot of Sound gigs with the new PA Rig. My cousin, Roger Smith's son, Bryan, got married on June 11, 2011 to Christy Gardner. Grannys Live provided the PA Rig for the ceremony and it was an amazing day. And also, Grannys Studio has revved back up during the month of June. We have hosted recording sessions by rappers, Z-Bo Black, CZ and country singer/songwriter Bob Childs of Monroe, NC. I have also started a YouTube page for the studio to showcase all the videos I am creating and producing for Macedonia Baptist Church and many other clients. There is a new link on the left side of the HOME page to go direct to it or you can click the link here.
As some of you may know, my nephew, Josh Raley, was killed in a truck wreck while driving for McLeod Farms on May 9, 2011. It is going to be a long road for my sister Beverly, her husband Dennis, their other son, Jeremy and all our family. Josh was such a great guy and will be missed dearly by all of us and his friends.
I am in the process of changing the website a little bit. I have added the Facebook and iTunes page buttons and I have created a new page called "Links". Just some websites that we like here at Grannys. Feel free to look around and check back for lots more changes very soon.
If you are in the Camden, SC area this evening stop by The Broad Street Brew and Cue, 1044 Broad Street, Camden, SC. I will be playing drums with The Rusty Davis Group and since they are having the St. Patrick's Day event in Columbia, SC early today, I am sure we will be having lots of friends stopping by later on to party with us for sure. COME ON OUT!!!
2010 is starting to rock out. In the studio today was Z-Bo Black finishing up tracks for his next release, "Debt 2 Society". Want be long now. Coming in to the studio with Z-Bo today was Angelos. He is going to also be doing tracks for his own CD release later this year. Angelos has a style that mixes in Spanish and Jamaican style rap music. He rocks!!! His CD will be awesome for sure. Coming to the studio next week will be C_Z to put the final mix on his new CD release "Southern HOV.1". You got to get this one folks. C_Z has put in a lot of hard work on this one and it really shows. Once the final mix is complete next week, I will have a couple of sample tracks on the website for you to try out. We should also know the final release date then as well. Check back soon for these and many more artist coming to Grannys in 2010!!!
Its been awhile since I have updated the site. Not to fear though, Grannys has began 2010 with a bang. We have again welcomed C_Z back to the studio to start work on a brand new CD, due out this summer. Also in the studio this month was Jeff Norwood. Jeff has began to write new tracks for his upcoming CD release later this year. It is sounding great so far.
Grannys has now started a new chapter in the audio business. We have now started to help local churches, including my own, Macedonia Baptist, with upgrading and completely overhauling their audio sound systems. I just assisted Jeff Buchanan, Bill Middleton, Steve Middleton, Joe Middleton and Pastor David with the design and installation of a JBL Powered PA system at Macedonia Baptist and the sound is amazing.
Happy Holidays from Grannys Studio.
Hope all you guys have a wonderful holiday!!
Had an amazing time this weekend playing drums behind Jeff Norwood. Would like to first thank the folks at Creek Ratz, Murrells Inlet for having us on Friday nite. It rocked!! The big fun was had today though. We played the House Of Blues, Myrtle Beach for the HOB Art Festival. Got to play all the originals from Jeff's new CD release "Awendaw". It was great!! A big shout out to Jeff for letting me have the honors and to the amazing Mike Fore on the harmonicas. Can't wait to do again. I have a link to a tune "Drink in Hand" that Jeff did at the studio back in 2007. Also be sure to check out his FB page below and website. www.jeffnorwoodblues.com

Just confirmed that, J3, will be opening the evening on August 30th at the Grannys Studio Pre Labor Day Cookout II. I had the pleasure, as you can see by the above logo, of playing in this band from the end of late 2006 till late 2007. Jazz has never been better. These 2 guys mix everything from early rock to modern jazz to form a sound that is just......cool.......If you have never seen them play then by all means get to the cookout early to check them out. J3 will be cranking things up first at the cookout around 5 pm.........So, the stage is set. As you know we are now planning the Granny's Studio Pre Labor Day Cookout II. The date is set for August 30th, 2008, Saturday evening. Last years cookout was awesome and we have some great plans for another great day. This year I have asked Jeff Norwood to headline the event. As some of you know, Jeff is an awesome blues singer/songwriter. He has toured from Camden, SC to Los Angelus, CA with stops in Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee to name a few. He is currently touring with his new band, Decoration Day, and doing lots of solo shows throughout the country. Opening for Jeff Norwood that night, is going to be Jim Mo Lee. Jim hails from Kershaw, SC and has become a well known folk rock singer/songwriter who has been touring throughout the east coast. See a promo pic below. I have also included his music page website link below the picture. Be sure to check out his tunes "Soak In The Sun" and "Linda Lou" on his website music player. These songs are just a glimpse into the creative power behind his music. You will not want to miss this special evening for sure. Weather permitting, I am going to keep the stage area open this year and give it a more outdoor open feel. Should be great. Anyway hope to see you all there. Check out Jeff's website below and give a listen. Also don't forget to check out Jim Mo Lee below. I am going to be putting up more details on the cookout soon so check back later. See ya!!!

Grannys Studio would like to express our deepest sympathy to Rusty and Jean Davis for the tragic death of their son Roger, 25. Roger was killed in a car crash early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008. You can read his funeral write up in the State News by clicking here. I have had the honor of playing drums in Rusty's band, PHD for over a year now and had the pleasure of meeting his son, Roger, at our first gig. Roger was just a great kid who was full of life and energy and was loved by all. He will truly be missed. Godspeed Roger!!
I would like to introduce to all of you the "Smoke Fairies". They hail from London, England. I have had the pleasure of knowing this acoustic folk rock group for about a year now and have just grown to love their music. They have toured with the likes of Bryan Ferry from Roxy Music, The Cedars and other major acts in the UK. Their music is a mix of melodic acoustic and haunting lyrics. Today I was contacted about booking a couple of dates in and around the Charlotte, NC area while they are here visiting friends. Folks you will not want to miss this. I know I will be there up front row. They are amazing. Do not just take my word for it though. Take a visit to their website links below and listen for yourself. Check back at the site soon for more details to come.

These are the first 2 songs that will be included in a future release CD due out in early fall. Keep a check back for this one folks. See the pictures below of the new group. I have created 2 pictures for the promotion. We will decide which one later but for now enjoy both. Hey if like one, email me back and let me know which one you like. Top or Bottom. Been awhile since posting on the site. Hope everything is going great for everyone. Spring is warming up at Grannys. YunSkee will release his new mix CD on Thursday this week. Get your hands on this one folks. It rocks.
I myself, am going to start having some of my musician friends stop by and help me on my new CD due out in October. A few of the names that are lined up to come so far are Tim Farley, Jeff Norwood and Pat Youngblood to name a few. Its going to be a mix of acoustic, Mississippi blues and hard rock. Ill be putting up an mp3 short very soon. Be sure to check that out. Till then, peace out, and thanks for supporting local musicians.
My wife, Julie and I just got back from an awesome trip to Jamaica. If you ever get the chance to go there, please do. This was our 4th trip and was the best. This time we actually had a bus ride up into the mountains where Bob Marley lived. It was just awesome. I was able to get a great picture from the the exact rock where Bob Marley and a couple of friends were hanging out one day and wrote the beginnings of a song that would be called "Exodus". One of those friends with him that day was Peter Tosh. Check out the picture. Would have been a cool day to be hanging out there would it not?? Just up the road from here was the birthplace of Bob and the final resting place which is housed in the mausoleum behind his home. This has now became the home site for the Bob Marley Foundation and of course a Bob Marley shrine. Check out the link to the Bob Marley website below and also the Nine Mile site. Bob Marley's home place.
Grannys is back up and running and going strong now. The studio started by finishing up the new CD by Yun$kee and it is going to be awesome. Grannys has basically became the headquarters for Yun$kee as he has a standing booking at the studio every month for the next 6 months. Look out for another release on CD very soon after this one hits the streets. Also coming soon to Grannys is Z-Bo Black. Z-Bo is working on his first major release due out in May. Tim Farley will be visiting the studio to help out on my new upcoming CD due out October. Check back soon for more updates.
As promised here is the cover for the new release by J & J Music Ministires (Johnny and JoAnn Todd) entitled "Messages From The Heart"
Well it looks like things will be cranking back up at Grannys starting March 22. It's going to sound awesome "again". March 22nd should see sessions by Z-Bo Black and Kelly Miller. After that I will be having my good friend and guitar extraordinaire, Tim Farley visit the studio in April to begin the tracking sessions for a CD that I am looking very forward to. I am going to try and get help from alot of my friends and artist on this one. Its been awhile since I released, Down Again, so I am really excited. I have the song ideas for about 8 tracks and the rest I am going to collaborate with Tim, John Weber, Jeff Norwood and other friends of the studio. Check back soon for updates on this and many other sessions coming to Grannys Studio.
I would now like to congratulate Johnny and JoAnn Todd for the release of their new Christian CD, "Messages From The Heart". We started tracking this project January and finished up late Feb. I want to thank Jay Matheson, Jason and Kurt at the Jam Room Studio for the CD duplication. Awesome job guys!!! I will post the cover of the CD before the weekend so hurry back to the site to check it out!!
Also, I know its early, but I just wanted to let you all know that we are planning the "2nd Annual Pre Labor Day Cookout". As most know the date is the Saturday before Labor Day (August 31 this year). I am now in discussions with Chanda to headline the event that night so it is going to be awesome(See the Performance Photos page for highlight pictures of last years event). Some of the other names for this years cookout so far is Jeff Norwood, Rusty Davis, Tim Farley and Stumphole. Keep this one on your calendars people. Should be a great day and night!!
Thought I would give a studio update this evening. Grannys is temporarily taking a few weeks off for hardware repair and upgrades. We expect operations to start back around the 2nd week of March. We regret this lapse and we will try our best to open the doors as quickly as possible. For those artist that are waiting for the studio to reopen, keep a check at the website over the next 2 - 3 weeks for full updates on the status. You can also call my cell phone. If you do not have it, send me an email from the contact link on the left side of this page.
Its been awhile since updating the site. Things are getting off to a great start at Grannys this year. Z-Bo Black and YunSkee have been working hard tracking their next new CD releases. Also we just finished mixing and mastering the new CD release by The Natural Reaction Band. This release will be used to send out to clubs and bars for booking purposes but a full release to the public will be within a month. Had a great time doing this one. Its been awhile since we have recorded a full band in the studio and it was awesome. Check back soon for news on these and more upcoming recordings and as always, thanks for supporting local musicians.
2007 was a great year for Grannys Studio. I have recorded more artist and bands last year than I have done in all the past 5 years. Just awesome. Two of the top releases this year has got to be YunSkee, "Personality Change" and Jeff Norwood, "Black Dark". Rap and Hip Hop has became a big part of the recording duties at Grannys now with over 6 Rap artist recording in the room last year alone. More are expected to record this year. Already I have made 7 bookings within the next 3 months coming for Rap and Hip Hop solo artist and groups. We are really excited. Also we are expecting Jeff Norwood to come back and start recording another blues record. Jeff has toured throughout the United States with festival shows in Los Angeles, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Arkansas to name a few. I also have the pleasure to play drums with this guy on a number of dates in South and North Carolina and Georgia. If you ever get a chance to see a solo show or with his band, The Chiggers, you will be glad you did. Old blues never sounded better. Check out his website link below and enjoy his site.
Well 2008 is here and to start things off at the studio is none other than YunSkee. YunSkee is now in the studio recording tracks for his next Mix Tape release. It is going to be another great record. Next, The Natural Reaction Band will be coming in to record a new demo CD. I am really excited about these guys. Mainly because I have the pleasure of being their drummer. 2007 was a blast playing with this band and 2008 is already looking like a great year for us. And last this month, Melissa Marie, from Exit 98, will be here to continue recording tracks for her upcoming Spring release. Keep a check back real soon for more to come.

What ever your project needs; beats, producing, whatever, he does it all. Fortunately he works with me and arrangements can be made for helping with your project real quick. Check out his website site. It is amazing. Dwight does an awesome job!!
I thought I would drop the cover on the new Kelly Miller Christmas CD on the front page. The CD features vocal performances from her kids, Ben, Katherine and Jordan. The CD is just awesome and all the family loved it. Kelly will be returning to the studio to finish up an upcoming CD release this Spring. Looking forward to that as well. Also Melissa Marie from "Exit 98" came in to start work on her new demo CD due out Feb of 2008. Keep a check on this and all other upcoming releases to come in 2008. Its gonna be a great year.

Also don't forget to bring a cooler with your favorite beverages. There will be a number of tables and chairs but you will probably want to bring your folding or camping chair as well. Be more comfortable when the live music starts up later that evening. Anyway that is about it. I will probably update the site one more time before the party so check back real soon. Time to get to work and make it all happen...lol. Can't wait to see everybody out for a great nite.

Kudos to the Progressive Journal for the story in this weeks paper. I do want to clear up one typo in the story though. The studio name is Grannys Studio and our record label is Granny-Kory Music but hey that is not a problem. We love the story and glad to have made new friends and a supporter of local music. Keep up the great work!!!!
I would like to thank Kristin Miller from The Progressive Journal for coming out this past Tuesday evening and checking out the studio. Had a blast. Might just see a story in the paper soon!!!
Grannys Studio would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Virginia Tech and to the families of all the victims.
The coming spring season is already getting hot at Grannys. To start with, I will welcome Tim Farley, (guitarist for The Cause based in Columbia, SC), to the studio to help me with a new CD project I'm starting. If you remember The Headnecks then you know Tim well. His guitar power drove the band for the last 4 or more years of the bands rein. Can't wait to see ya Tim!!!! Zebo Blak has just finished tracking a large array of songs that he will be turning into his first release CD. Keep checking back for this one. Zebo is an awesome rapper and his songs are amazing. Also Yunskee, another rapper from McBee came by for his 2nd tracking session and is getting a great start on his upcoming CD.
This just in, Jeff Norwood and Lil' Jimmy are starting their Spring/ Summer tour throughout the US. Upcoming gigs are in Mississippi, Los Angelus, and New York just to name a few. You can also catch them locally in around the Columbia and Camden area. I will get the chance to play drums on a few of these gigs so that is going to be amazing. Also they will be coming by soon to start an all out Blues/ Gospel CD due out in the fall of 2007. And last but not least Kelly Miller will be coming by in 2 weeks to start work on her new CD due out this late fall. Whew.............Its getting busy and we love it so keep checking back for news and all the info on these and other sessions to come. later!!!!
We would like to announce the release of the new CD by Kelly Miller. Kelly visited the studio 4 weeks ago to start work on her first CD and last week we finished the project just in time for Christmas. Kelly had help on the CD provided by her mother, Donna Southard. Donna sang harmony vocals on the Hymns and also played the piano. The CD is now out on a limited release for friends and family but more copies are in the works. If you would like to get a copy just contact us here at Grannys and we will get you one.
We are also proud to announce the new CD by Jeff Norwood, Lil' Jimmy and The Chiggers is very soon to being released. Jeff was at the studio this past Saturday during the final mixing and mastering session and we cannot wait to get this one out there. I want to thank Jeff, Lil Jimmy and Bobby for making this just an awesome journey. The project will going to duplication within the next 2 weeks and we are looking at a late December or January release. Keep checking the site here for the exact date.
Grannys was pleased to have the blues group Stumphole in to start work on their upcoming holiday release. Look for pics and more on this new release soon. You can click on the link below for their Soundclick webpage.
Pro Tools has come to Grannys Studio thanks to Sweetwater Music
Grannys has now finished putting together the new Pro Tools rig and it sounds great. After rebuilding the studio we decided it was time to step it up a little and Sweetwater Music has helped to make it all possible. The system features 48 tracks of 24 bit 96 kHz sound with Digirack and Waves Plug In Packs. We can now record your projects with high definition and sonic clarity never before possible here at Grannys. Because of this we can now offer full band recording and mastering services to fulfill any project need. Also since it is Pro Tools we can send the tracks to any major studio in the world to finish in style. If you would like to see for yourself just email us and we will set it up. See ya soon!!
This past Saturday, July 8, I was finally able to break in the refurbished Grannys Studio and what a treat it was. Jeff Norwood and Lil' Jimmy came in to put the first tracks down for the upcoming Chiggers release. As an extra bonus I was invited to play the drums on this new release. As you can see in the below pics Jeff and Lil' Jimmy brought in 2 very unique vintage amplifiers. To the left on top of the Victor speaker cabinet is a 1931 Stromberg-Carlson amp and on the right is an 1951 Bogen amp. These 2 amps sounded amazing and with Jeff's National Slide Guitar and the awesome harmonica playing of Lil' Jimmy it made for a great Saturday evening. Check out the pics below and keep checking in at the site for more updates on The Chiggers upcoming release.
Summer is in high gear at Grannys Studio. To start things off the rap group The Unknownz; (Tentative Project Name) have started laying down tracks for their upcoming release. Also starting next week Grannys will be the home recording base for Jeff Norwood and The Chiggers for their new release due in early Fall. For more news on these 2 groups and other artist due in this summer keep a check at the site!!!
